The Jonathan
Tarr Foundation was established in 2001 in
memory of Jonathan Tarr who died in a tragic
auto accident. He was only seventeen and would
have been a high school senior. He attended
Sunset High School, a continuation high school,
in Encinitas, CA, and through a school sponsored
program worked as a courtesy clerk at Von’s
Companies Store in Encinitas.
Jonathan played competitive soccer as a goalie.
He danced Hula and had a love for the ocean and
surfing at Cardiff Reef. However, the
extracurricular activities alone did not define
this special young man who honored his
Chinese-Hawaiian heritage and the true
understanding of the /spirit of aloha /that
fosters universal mutual regard and respect for
one another Jonathan Tarr was filled with
potential, he just did not live long enough to
fulfill his dreams. His spirit now lives on
through the Windows of Opportunity Scholarships
provided to the students of San Diego County and
the Greater Los Angeles Area.
